How does the points test work for skilled visas?
The points test awards points across factors including age (maximum 30 points for applicants aged 25–32), English language ability (up to 20 points for Superior English), Australian work experience, overseas work experience, qualifications, and other factors such as partner skills, regional study, and STEM credentials. A minimum of 65 points is required to submit an Expression of Interest, but competitive scores in most occupations are significantly higher.
How long does a skilled visa application take to process?
Processing times vary significantly by visa subclass and individual circumstances. Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent) can range from several months to over a year. What is the difference between Subclass 189, 190, and 491?
The 189 is a fully independent permanent residence visa requiring no state or employer nomination. Do I need a job offer to apply for a skilled visa?
